The Relation text box contains the name of your Relation. You can modify the name of the Relation in this field.
Number of times to retry a failed file copy
If a file copy is interrupted due to any type of error on the file being copied you can set the Relation to retry the copying of the file to see if the error is corrected. Enter the number of retires you would like the Relation to use in this field.
Time between retries (hh:mm:ss)
This option tells SureSync how long to wait between each retry you specified in 'File retry attempts'. You can manually type in a time in the format hh:mm:ss or use the arrows to scroll through the times.
Warn if files are deleted
If you select 'Warn if files are deleted' you can then enter the number of deletes which can occur in the current execution of the Relation before a warning is written into the SureSync job log.
Cancel Job if too many files are deleted
If you select the 'Cancel Job if too many files are deleted' option and enter a number SureSync will cancel the Relation once that number of files has been deleted during the current run of the Relation.
File deletions are a normal part of many of the synchronization methods available to you when using SureSync. For example, if you delete a file from a path being synchronized in a multi-mirror rule the correct action is to delete that file on the other machines involved keeping them synchronized and keeping each path looking exactly like the other. The 'Warn if files are deleted' and 'Cancel job if too many files are deleted' options provide some basic protection against accidental file deletions being propagated through the network but they can also result in valid synchronization jobs being halted so they should be used with caution.
Synchronize only if top level subfolder exists
If this option is checked then a file will only be processed if the subfolder at the top of the branch of the directory tree containing that file already exists on the destination. In other words, if the first subfolder, at the root level, does not exist nothing in that subfolder will be processed.
Copy files with alternate data streams...
If you check this option then SureSync will copy files with more than one data stream even if the destination root does not support them. The alternate data streams will be dropped from the file on the drives which do no support the storage of alternate data streams. There are alternate data streams of many types. They can be user created or program created. Windows 2000 and Microsoft Office 2000 for example make use of alternate data streams to store file and program information. Macintosh files will almost always have two data streams (a resource fork and a data fork). If you copy these files to a destination that does not support the extra streams there may be a loss of data. If you don't want files with alternate streams to copy to a location where streams are not supported, do not check this box. If the box is unchecked, those files will not copy and an error will be reported in the SureSync Job Log.
Use Change Journals (Ignored for UNC Paths)
The 'Use Change Journals' option tells the Relation to use the NTFS Change Journal to determine changes. The Change Journal is only available on Windows operating systems when using drives formatted NTFS. When the Change Journal is not supported, SureSync will automatically synchronize data by scanning the directories to determine change. This scanning method was the default method of operation prior to SureSync 6.0.
The NTFS Change Journal is a feature built-in to the NTFS file system which keeps track of changes which have occurred on a volume. This can eliminate directory scanning when a Relation is run on a regular basis because SureSync can read the events in the journal instead of performing a full directory scan.
Using Change Journal support does not mean that you will see never see directory scanning. For example, if a Relation has not been run in a long time, the last event in the Journal which SureSync processed could be purged out of the Journal. When this happens, SureSync must assume that events have been missed and perform a full scan. However, the option will cut down on a lot of scanning.
The Use Change Journals option is not available when using UNC paths. The option will be ignored.
